Who Should Vote
The
administration said it wants to exclude everyone who hasn't held an
appointment of at least 75% for three consecutive semesters, who
now holds an appointment of less than 75%, is a librarian, teaches
for University College, or is retired.
There is no need for disagreement. If the
administration had agreed that NTTs all deserve the right to vote,
the election would already have taken place this semester. Instead,
ISU hired an outside law firm to prevent most NTTs from voting in
the election. Now the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board
must make the decision as to who will be eligible to vote.

Professor Cary Nelson, author of over 12 books including Will
Teach for Food, spoke to the community during a seminar in
DeGarmo Hall. Nelson spoke in favor of an NTT union, saying
that a unionized faculty creates a stronger intellectual
community, allows better teaching, and supports instructors'
basic needs for fair pay and good working conditions. |
